Over the past several years, CAM practices have grown in popularity and are often used in combination with more traditional medical practices. Some common CAM practices include acupuncture, yoga, and aromatherapy. Massage therapy is another type of CAM practice that is often used to treat muscle pain, injury, and stiffness. Massage therapy has more recently been used for the treatment of mental and emotional problems, including stress, anxiety, and depression.?? Also considered a relaxation technique, massage therapy may be able to help reduce tension and elicit feelings of calm and deep relaxation. Additionally, massage may be able to curb feelings of fear and anxiety, plus assist in managing other panic disorder symptoms.?? What Is Massage Therapy? Massage therapy involves manipulating the muscles by kneading, rubbing, pressing, or patting different muscle groups. Massage therapists use their hands and massage oils to work through various groups of muscles.?? Some massage therapists will also include aromatherapy oils and tranquil music to help create a peaceful and deeply relaxing experience. There are many different kinds of massage offered by massage therapists. Depending on the style, massages often vary in pressure and muscle group focus. Some of the most common types of massage include: Swedish Massage: This is the most popular type of massage and is meant to help relax the body and mind. It involves a total body massage where a person lies on the massage table while the massage therapist slowly works through different muscle groups. Swedish massage also helps circulate blood flow, relieve mental stress, and reduce muscle pain and tension. Deep tissue: This kind of massage is similar to Swedish massage. However, the massage therapist uses more pressure and intensity when working through the muscles. Deep tissue massage is aimed at releasing tense and painful muscle knots that are often associated with physical discomfort, stress, and headaches. Sports Massage: Often used by athletes, sports massage is used to assist in athletic training. This type of massage is focused on preparing muscles for intense training. Additionally, sports massage is used to help the muscles recover after intense performance or injury. Shiatsu: Frequently referred to as acupressure, Shiatsu is a form of massage that is similar to acupuncture. Shiatsu originated in Japan and means âfinger pressure.â Instead of using needles like acupuncture, the practitioner uses their fingers on pressure points. Pushing these points are thought to help release energy and restore balance back to the body and mind. How Massage Therapy Can Help Ease Anxiety and Panic Disorder Symptoms Massage therapy can help the body relax, which in turn can help one let go of anxious and fearful thoughts. Massage can relieve muscle pain and tension, improve circulation, and increase flexibility. As a relaxation technique, massage therapy can work to manage the fight-or-flight response, or stress reaction, that is typically overactive among people with anxiety disorders.?? The fight-or-flight reaction is responsible for causing fearful thoughts and reactions that often far outweigh any actual threat in the environment. For example, people with agoraphobia often fear having a panic attack in a large crowd or confined areas where it would feel embarrassing or difficult to escape. The fight-or-flight reaction typically leads to uncomfortable physical symptoms, such as shortness of breath, accelerated heart rate, excessive sweating, and chest pain. Massage therapy can have an opposing effect on the body by eliciting the relaxation response, reducing tension, lowering heart rate, and generally making a person feel calmer.?? Physical Benefits of Massage Less muscle pain and tension Improved circulation and flexibility Lower heart rate Mental Benefits of Massage Less anxious thoughts Tamed fight-or-flight response Lower tension and more feelings of calm Getting Started with Massage Therapy Massage therapy is often offered at many spas, salons, and wellness centers. However, as it continues to become a more mainstream treatment option, massage is now offered at many hospitals and clinics. Some insurance companies may even cover massage therapy services. When meeting with your massage therapist for the first time, make sure to discuss your medical history, including your panic and anxiety symptoms. It is important to schedule these services with a licensed or certified massage therapist. This ensures that you will get treatment from a qualified practitioner who has followed the standards and requirements for their state licensure.?? Licensed massage therapists can be found through website directories, including the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage Bodywork and the American Massage Therapy Association. Let the massage therapist know if you have any areas of discomfort throughout your body. Also discuss what you hope to get out of the massage, such as muscle or stress relief. Generally, massage therapy only has a few potentially adverse side effects. Many people experience some soreness throughout their body the first few days following a massage.?? However, you should never feel pain or discomfort during or after a massage. Massage is also contraindicated for certain medical conditions. Always consult your doctor before getting a massage if you are unsure if its right for you. Studies have supported the safety and effectiveness of utilizing massage therapy for stress, anxiety, and depressionâ"but if you are experiencing panic attacks and other symptoms of panic disorder, talk to your doctor before trying this and other CAM practices. Your doctor will be able to assist you with conventional treatment options, such as medication and therapy. Massage may be beneficial in helping you manage your condition but is not a substitute for traditional medical care.?? Massage therapy may be incorporated into your standard treatment plan to assist you in coping with panic disorder. The 7 Best Online Anxiety Support Groups of 2020

The Success Of The Apprentice - 896 Words
While watching the apprentice I noticed that a lot of concepts that weââ¬â¢ve learned this semester can be easily correlated. From Mr. Trumpââ¬â¢s borderline autocratic leadership style to the secondary tension build between Kwame, Bowie, and Sam I could definitely see some of the concepts being used by the cast. Tuckmans 4 phases of group development, forming, storming, norming, and performing were also quite evident in this season of the apprentice. Forming is basically why people form. In episode one when the ladies first started to meet everyone you could tell that they all felt a need to belong. They knew that they were specifically chosen to take on this task and knew only one could win the apprentice position in the end. They seemed to be optimistic about their groups and after the lemonade selling task it was evident that they began to have an attraction to the group activities. It wasnââ¬â¢t long before the storming phase occurred on the womenââ¬â¢s team. Stormin g comprises of two levels of tension. Primary tension is when you first gather in a group you may feel jitters or uneasiness. In the first episode a few people, mainly the women had this type of tension. They looked at the other girls as someone they were trying to get to know and build friendships but still keeping the mindset that everyone is there in competition; which led to some of the women having uncomfortable moments of silence or engaging in overly polite conversations. Burger King Expansion Free Essays
1. By mid-2009, Burger King was not in any of the following five countries: France, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, and South Africa. Compare these countries as possible future locations for Burger King. We will write a custom essay sample on Burger King Expansion or any similar topic only for you Order Now These countries all have large populations but are not in close proximity to the BK headquarters in Miami. How well do these five countries identify with the Burger King brand? It is hard entering foreign markets where consumers are loyal to previously established brands. Is there even enough beef to go around? Burger King will have their work set out for them to be successful in these markets and many not have franchising opportunities to rely on. France: the concern with France is how much of the population actually consumes beef. India: Burger King may have recently ruined their chances for sending their business to India. There are no beef in the McDonalds located in India. Hindu does not eat beef and that is approximately 80% of the population. Burger King thought it was a good idea to place an ad of Lakshmi, the Indian goddess of wealth, about to eat one of the beef burgers, which are forbidden under Hindu religion. Why? Other than that bad business move Burger King is faced with re-inventing their menu. Nigeria- Restaurants like Tantilizers has had plenty of success in Nigeria and service similar food products to Burger King. Well, at least they sell hamburgers. Yet, it all depends on how well Burger King can re-invent meat pies and other popular Nigerian foods. I think Nigeria will be a much better location than that of France and India and it has less competition. Pakistan- McDonalds seems to found success in Pakistan and serves many beef products, chicken, and fish. Burger King can have similar success from a product/menu standpoint. However, will it be enough to compete with an already established fast food base who serves similar products and have a loyal consumer base. However, the market is big enough for an additional player because of the population. South Africa- South Africa will If I was on the Burger King Management team then I would definitely try to enter into Nigeria, Pakistan, and South Africa. I do not think that France is the type of market that Burger King will do exceptional well but maybe average. India, I would not even look any further into trying to bring the BK brand. 2. When entering another country, discuss the advantages and disadvantages that an international restaurant company, specifically Burger King, would have in comparison with a local company in that market. The advantages of Burger King entering into new markets are: The disadvantages of Burger King entering new markets are: 3. About two-thirds of Burger Kingââ¬â¢s restaurants and revenues are in its Americas region (United States and Canada) and one-third elsewhere. Should this relationship change? If so, why and how? The relationship should not change. America is only 5 percent of the world population but consumes 25% of beef. However, Burger King could switch up their menu but I do not think that will bring success. The fish and chicken products do not produce enough variety in international markets in my opinion. 4. The case mentions that Burger King prefers to enter countries with large numbers of youth and shopping centers. Why do you think these conditions would be advantageous? 5. How has Burger Kingââ¬â¢s headquarters location influenced its international expansion? Has this location strengthened or weekend its global competitive position? The location has weakened Burger King international expansion. Almost three fourths of all Burger restaurants are either in the United States or Latinà America. Teens with hiv taking more risks Essay Example For Students
Teens with hiv taking more risks Essay Teenagers infected with HIV are more likely to engage in risky sex and drug use since the introduction of powerful medicines that effectively keep AIDS at bay, a new study finds. The trend, which began surfacing after highly active antiretroviral therapies (HAART) were introduced in 1996, points to the need for targeted interventions to reduce risky behavior and improve quality of life for those in this group, the researchers noted. Roughly a quarter of the 40,000 new HIV infections in the United States each year occur in people under the age of 21, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We will write a custom essay on Teens with hiv taking more risks specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Young people, post-HAART, are engaging in more unprotected sex and engaging in more substance abuse, and are more emotionally distressed and have a lower quality of life, said lead researcher Marguerita Lightfoot, an assistant research psychologist at the University of California, Los Angeles Center for Community Health. This finding was surprising, Lightfoot added. ;I had a hypothesis that the young people who are taking HAART would be healthier, because they had more hope, they were living longer. And I was surprised that that wasnt the case. In the study, Lightfoot and her colleagues compared behaviors among 349 teens with HIV from Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York City and Miami from 1994 to 1996, with 175 teens with HIV in the same cities from 1999 to 2000. The two groups did not include the same people, but they were a similar mix of sex, age, race and ethnicity, as well as socioeconomic factors, according to the report in the March issue of the American Journal of Health Behavior. The researchers found the post-HAART group was almost two times more likely to have had unprotected sex. The post-HAART teens had almost twice the number of sex partners, compared with pre-HAART teens. And post-HAART teens were more likely to have a sexual partner who used injected drugs. In addition, the post-HAART group was diagnosed with HIV at a younger age and was in worse health than the pre-HAART group, Lightfoots team found. Lightfoot said there are a number of reasons for these findings. She noted the powerful drug regimen isnt perfect. There are increased expectations for HAART, Lightfoot said. But not everyone is successful on HAART. Lightfoot also noted that teens infected with HIV are more apt to be involved with the juvenile justice system and spend time in jail. Maybe it says something about the kind of young people who are more likely to be infected with HIV. These are the people who are most at risk, she said. In addition, because being on HAART makes people feel safer, they are more likely to engage in unprotected sex. People also feel that HAART makes HIV a disease that they can live with, Lightfoot said. This attitude is also found among HIV-positive adults, she noted. The ones who are getting infected are the ones who are not getting the prevention messages, Lightfoot said. We are seeing that as a trend among people of color, who are the fastest-growing population getting HIV. We need to be targeting these young people for interventions, not only to prevent them from transmitting the virus, but we need to be helping them with their emotional distress, Lightfoot said. We have a real opportunity to prevent the further spread of HIV if we focus on the young people who are actually living with it. Another expert found the study conclusions disturbing. It is distressing that things had gotten worse for the more recent group of teens living with HIV, said Freya Sonenstein, a professor and director of the Center for Adolescent Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f , .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f .postImageUrl , .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f , .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f:hover , .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f:visited , .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f:active { border:0!important; } .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f:active , .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ud449adb3cb6b3485cc7059563bed3c0f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Income inequality EssaySonenstein focuses on the type of teens who are most likely to become infected with HIV to explain the findings. An explanation for the study findings is that the teens living with HIV have become selectively more disadvantaged, she said. Still, I think that we should expect the care and support systems for this group to improve, and the call for improved programming is justified, Sonenstein added.
